Dear friends,

It is with great pleasure that I address you as the President of the Rotary Club of Grand Bay (RCGB). I salute in passing the former Presidents who have all contributed to mould and shape the RCGB since its inception. Let me first of all thank Past District Governor Rama Chetty for having introduced me to Rotary. Without this introduction a part of my life would not have existed and this is the reason why we should continue to introduce members to our Club so that they can discover the world of SERVICE ABOVE SELF. Let us follow the advice of Rotary International (RI) President Jennifer Jones “Each one brings one” to increase our membership.

The selection of Jennifer Jones as the RI President Elect for 2022-2023 heralds a new era in Rotary as she will be the first woman to lead the organization. This illustrates more than ever the notion of diversity, equity and inclusion in our 116-year old organization, created by Paul Harris.

Birds of a feather flock together and so do the members of the RCGB. The power of empathy bounds us all and the 4-way test guides us in our personal and Rotarian lives. As change-makers and people of action we have shown the world that with concerted efforts we have almost wiped out POLIO on the planet. Fighting disease is one of the Rotary’s main causes and now we are gearing all our efforts to fight coronavirus which has spread like wild fire around the globe.

The proud enthusiasm for all that Rotary stands for impels us towards making the world a better place to live, alleviating poverty, achieving results in the 7 areas of focus within the 5 avenues of service of Rotary International. We do not belong only to our Club but to the world Rotarian community. Having attended 3 Rotary World Conventions (Bangkok, New Orleans and Atlanta), I urge my fellow members to experience a Convention with distinguished and electrifying speakers who motivate us of the likes of Bill Gates, Muhammad Yunus (Nobel Peace Prize), Robin Sharma, Andrew Young, etc. This helps to rekindle the flame of Rotary in our midst.

I pledge to serve the Club to the best of my abilities together with my dedicated members who are inspired by the Rotary Mission which is to “provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through our fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders”.

Let us SERVE TO CHANGE LIVES

Long Live Rotary

Sendilen Chetty
President
Rotary Club of Grand Bay
